Campaign For Uyghurs (CFU) stands in solemn remembrance as we commemorate the 14th anniversary of the July 5th Urumchi Massacre. On this day, thousands of peaceful Uyghur protesters were tragically killed by the Chinese regime, as they courageously demanded justice and accountability for those involved in the Shaoguan massacre on June 26, 2009.

The July 5th Urumchi Massacre remains a painful reminder of the Chinese government’s brutal suppression of the Uyghur people’s right to peaceful protest and their relentless pursuit of justice. CFU stands in solidarity with the victims’ families, survivors, and all those who continue to fight for human rights and dignity.

Executive Director Rushan Abbas shares her reflections on this tragic occasion and said “The 14th anniversary of the July 5th Urumchi Massacre serves as a somber reminder of the heavy toll experienced by the Uyghur people at the hands of the Chinese regime. We stand resolute in our pursuit of justice for those who lost their lives. Together, we demand accountability and an end to the ongoing atrocities facing the Uyghurs. We cannot remain silent while such flagrant disregard for human rights persists. we must never cease our efforts to seek justice for the victims and hold the perpetrators accountable.

In commemoration of this tragic event, CFU, along with Center For Uyghur Studies, Uyghur Academy and the World Uyghur Congress, invites concerned individuals and organizations to join us in protest, in front of the Chinese Embassy in Washington D.C. on Wednesday, July 5th, 2023. Together, we will raise our voices and demand an end to the systemic human rights abuses amounting to genocide against the Uyghur people perpetrated by the Chinese regime, sending a strong message that the atrocities will not go unnoticed or unchallenged.
