Campaign For Uyghurs (CFU) joins the international community to commemorate The International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, a day to remember and seek justice for all those who have disappeared unjustly. On this solemn occasion, let us remember those who have disappeared, honor their memory, and collectively work towards a world where no community is subjected to such injustice, ensuring that every disappeared Uyghur is brought home safely.
Today, CFU highlights the heartbreaking case of Gulshan Abbas, sister of Executive Director Rushan Abbas, who has been missing for nearly five years after being sentenced to an unjust imprisonment on fabricated charges of terrorism and social disruption, which CFU categorically denounces as baseless and false. Gulshan Abbas, a medical doctor, was forcibly disappeared by Chinese authorities on September 11, 2018. She has been subjected to unlawful detention without any due process, and her family has endured immense suffering not knowing her whereabouts or well-being.
Executive Director Rushan Abbas expresses her deep concern and anguish on this day, “As we all commemorate The International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, I cannot forget that I am haunted by the ongoing disappearance of my beloved sister, Gulshan Abbas. For nearly five years, our family has been living in uncertainty, not knowing whether she is alive or what conditions she is enduring. It is a painful reminder of the widespread repression and injustice inflicted upon the Uyghurs by the Chinese government. We demand answers and justice not just for Gulshan, but for all disappeared Uyghurs who suffer in silence.”
CFU reiterates its call on the international community to take urgent action against the Chinese government’s systematic campaign targeting Uyghurs, which includes enforced disappearances, arbitrary detentions, and the denial of basic human rights amounting to crimes against humanity and genocide. CFU stands in solidarity with all families who are facing the agony of having their loved ones forcibly disappeared and demands transparency, accountability, and the release of all unlawfully detained Uyghurs.
