On this solemn occasion of the International Day Commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief, Campaign for Uyghurs (CFU) stands in solidarity with victims and survivors of religious persecution worldwide. Today, as we remember those who have suffered due to their faith, CFU renews its commitment to advocating for the rights and freedom of the Uyghur people, who continue to face genocide

Religious freedom is a fundamental human right that should be upheld without exception. Unfortunately, in East Turkistan, China’s systematic criminalization of the Uyghur Muslim’s religious practices, separation of children from their roots, and destruction of mosques is a dire reminder that this right is under constant threat. As the Uyghur people endure forced assimilation, forced labor, war on Islam, and arbitrary detention, CFU joins hands with the global community to demand an end to these atrocities.

To mark this occasion Executive Director Rushan Abbas, said “On this day, we remember not only those who have fallen victim to violence based on religion or belief, but also those who continue to suffer every day due to such persecution. The Uyghur people’s right to practice their faith freely and peacefully has been stripped away, and we must stand united to ensure that their voices are heard, their suffering acknowledged, and justice served. It is our duty to bring an end to the violence and oppression that millions of Uyghurs are enduring in China’s war on Islam.”

CFU calls on the international community, governments, and organizations to unite in their efforts to protect religious freedom and combat all forms of religious persecution. The memory of victims serves as a call to action to prevent further atrocities and uphold the principles of justice and human dignity.
