Campaign for Uyghurs (CFU) is deeply concerned about the findings in the report “Islamophobia in China and Attitudes of Muslim Countries” released by the Center for Uyghur Studies (CUS). The report highlights the pervasive nature of Islamophobia in China and the role of Muslim countries in enabling the Chinese regime to continue its campaign of oppression against the Uyghurs.
The report is a damning indictment of the Chinese regime’s use of Islamophobia as a weapon to justify its horrific campaign against the Uyghurs. It exposes the complicity of Muslim countries in enabling China’s brutal oppression, through their silence and even open support for the regime’s actions. This report reveals the insidious role of China’s state media in spreading hateful messages about the Uyghurs, falsely portraying them as terrorists. The impact of this propaganda has been devastating, with Muslim countries either turning a blind eye or actively endorsing China’s heinous actions against the Uyghurs.
The Executive Director of CUS, Abdulhakim Idris said in a statement: “Today, the Chinese regime is waging a war on Islam in East Turkistan and committing genocide against Uyghur Muslims. However, the Islamic World is yet to recognize the real nature of the Chinese regime due to the mass disinformation campaign the Chinese regime is carrying out among Muslim countries. With the release of this report, we hope to shed light on China’s Islamophobic policies and educate the Muslims to see the real face of the Chinese regime. We have also examined China’s propaganda attempts in the Islamic World and exposed them with facts. We hope more Muslims will be educated on China’s religious persecution of the Uyghur Muslims and stand up to the most Islamophobic regime in the world today.”
In response to the report, CFU Executive Director Rushan Abbas said: “The findings in this report are deeply troubling but not surprising. China’s propaganda machine has been successful in spreading Islamophobic messages both domestically and abroad, and it is clear that this has influenced the attitudes of Muslim majority countries toward the Uyghur genocide. We urge all countries, especially those with significant Muslim populations, to stand with the Uyghur people and demand an end to China’s oppression not only for the sake of the Uyghurs’ rights but also to defend their faith. Silence is not an option when millions of lives and humanity are at stake.”
The report by CUS serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for action to end the persecution of the Uyghurs. CFU strongly urges Muslim countries to take a stand against China’s persecution of the Uyghurs, and Beijing’s war on Islam, as the silence of these countries means indirect complicity in the genocide of the Uyghurs. We urge them to speak out and take concrete actions to support the Uyghurs.
