Campaign for Uyghurs (CFU) applauds the Czech Senate’s unanimous passage of a motion declaring the Chinese regime’s actions as a genocide. The Czech Senate is joining the United States government, the Canadian, Dutch, UK, and Lithuanian parliaments in their condemnation of China’s crimes against humanity. The motion passed also called for the Czech Republic to diplomatically boycott the Beijing 2022 Olympics.
Pavel Fischer, Czech Senator and Co-Chair of the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China, said “We cannot stay silent while the Chinese Government carries out the most brutal persecution of Uyghurs, Tibetans and other groups.”
With more governments and parliaments declaring the regime’s actions as a genocide, CFU calls for the governments of these parliaments to officially adopt the genocide designation and work swiftly to end the living nightmare that millions of Uyghurs are facing under the authoritarian Chinese regime. With over three million in concentration camps suffering from physical torture, sexual violence, forced labor, brainwashing, and death, this has long been an emergency that needed immediate attention. While the world is late to action, we are not too late to change course and protect the rights of the Uyghurs and other Turkic people who are facing untold horror at the hands of the CCP. Passing legislation such as the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act and enforcing import bans against forced labor are critical. Sanctions against CCP officials and entities that are responsible for the Uyghur genocide must be implemented.
CFU Founder & Executive Director Rushan Abbas said “The Czech Senate’s decision is welcomed by CFU and by the Uyghur community. This is a clear sign of shifting tides against the CCP’s authoritarianism and a recognition that the regime has been allowed to operate with impunity for too long. I urge the international community to boycott the Beijing 2022 Olympics and for more western governments to recognize the atrocities taking place against the Uyghurs in East Turkistan today.”
CFU also calls for more governments to boycott the Beijing 2022 Olympics. United States Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has already called for a diplomatic boycott, as has IPAC. The Chinese regime cannot be allowed to hold the Olympics while they are committing genocide and violating the rights of Tibetans, Hong Kongers, Southern Mongolians, and Han Chinese.
CFU also urges the Belgian parliament to pass the upcoming motion to call the CCP’s actions against Uyghurs as Crimes Against Humanity. As Belgian MP Samuel Cogoalati said, Belgium has “an unavoidable moral and legal responsibility to prevent the Crime of Genocide wherever we see it at risk of developing.” Belgium must join its allies and nations in the west in condemning the Chinese regime’s atrocities.
