Campaign for Uyghurs Warns Public about Impersonation Website
Washington, D.C. – Campaign for Uyghurs (CFU) is warning the public about a fraudulent website, campaignforuyghursorg.com, impersonating our organization’s official website, campaignforuyghurs.org. This site has copied CFU’s press materials and descriptions of our work, and includes information that was never issued or authorized by CFU.
The fraudulent domain was registered in July 2025, shortly after CFU Founder and Executive Director Rushan Abbas published her memoir Unbroken: One Uyghur’s Fight for Freedom. Around the same time, counterfeit versions of Abbas’s book appeared online using false publisher information, unauthorized content, and fabricated stories. CFU believes these incidents are part of a coordinated campaign to dilute CFU’s strong impacts, confuse the public, and undermine the organization’s advocacy work.
“This is a part of an organized effort to deceive the public and undermine CFU’s work,” said Rushan Abbas, Founder and Executive Director of CFU. “Because of the impact of our advocacy, CFU and I have long been targets of the Chinese Communist Party’s digital transnational repression, aimed at tarnishing our reputation, discrediting our work, and silencing our voices. We will take all necessary measures to counter these abuses and continue exposing the Chinese regime’s crimes.”
CFU is taking this matter seriously and has initiated appropriate steps to report and address the impersonation. We urge supporters, partners, and the public to verify all CFU communications through official channels. We remain committed to transparency and protecting our community from fraud and disinformation.
